What is the BECE?
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is the national exam taken by Junior High School (JHS) students in Ghana at the end of JHS 3. It is administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and determines placement into Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country. BECE 2026 preparation is crucial for every JHS 3 student aiming for a top SHS placement.
The exam tests students across 8 core subjects. Results are graded on a scale of 1 (highest) to 9 (lowest), and the aggregate score from 6 best subjects determines SHS placement through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
